Wednesdays with Bucket

So I finally watched “Up” last night, and holey crap it is stunning on Blu-ray.  This is not a typical cartoon, in fact it’s kind of a tear jerker.  If not a tear jerker, it is at least a tear encourager.  As required by toon-law, it does include the typical cheesy moments prerequisite to getting a laugh from the young-ens.  But really, overall, this was not a kids movie.  It was sad, funny, mature, and visually stunning (and a really good argument to buy a Blu-ray player).

Bouncing here and there and everywhere

I just realized I haven’t eaten a gummy bear or gummy worm in -forever.  When mom used to pack our lunches; she would occasionally hide a gummy worm in our PB&J sandwiches, just to say she loved us.  Though a little disturbing, this was definitely a sweet gesture.

I know one thing; my next road trip is definitely going to include a hefty bag of some sort of gummied animal.

Eight Men Out

This movie was made in 1988, and honestly it seemed like it.  At times hard to watch, and a little hard to follow.  The cast was a whose who of 80’s actors:

Cusack

Charlie Sheen

Christopher Lloyd

Michael Rooker

D.B. Sweeney

As usual Cusack was good, Charlie was Charlie, and though I’ll always have a predilection for “The Cutting Edge,” I have to admit Sweeney is generally pretty damn bad.

I thought the side story about Buck Weaver was really interesting and pretty tragic.  If you don’t know a lot about the Black Sox scandal; this is probably worth watching. 

Sheepishly admits

I watched this movie tonight, because I had invoicing to do and wanted something that wouldn’t be too engaging (spoiler alert - it wasn't).

I openly admit to liking chick-flicks, but wow not this one. This was almost as hard for me to finish as the first Twilight (if she’d climbed a tree with the British guy they would’ve been equal) and the plot was comparably formulated. I still like Isla, despite her engagement to Bruno, but can not recommend this movie to any human being, anywhere.

More Cusack

In my ongoing quest to conquer the Cusack Collection, I “suffered” through “Martian Child” tonight.  I watched this with reluctant trepidation; in fact the movie had sat on my counter for nearly three weeks.  Critically this film was slaughtered, and everyone I know who saw it – gave it a resounding meh. 

My opinion; it was a pretty good movie and worth watching.  I thought Cusack was very good, though maybe a little awkward working with the child actor.  Amanda Peet was charming, and his sister did a really good job… playing his sister.  By the way, if we’re going to recycle the siblings playing siblings thing – can’t we have another Emilio/Charlie film (Men at Work II?)?

One of the secrets to happiness is managing your expectations, and mine were admittedly pretty low going in.  But, yeah I liked it.
